Keeping People Out

 

All doors to the outside should have working locks

1. Windows

2. Doors

3. Garage and Shed

4. Keep all outside doors, sliding doors and windows locked

Getting out - In case of fire

1. Don't have deadbolt locks that lock with an inside key

2. Deadbolt locks should have a "thumb turn" device on the inside

3. Inside window locks should be able to be opened easily

4. Windows with security bars should have a "quick release" latch

5. Make sure paths to all doors are uncluttered and easy to get through

Protection against intruders

1. Keep plants trimmed under windows

2. Keep ladders stored in a locked shed or garage

3. Keep shades or curtains closed over garage and shed windows

4. Keep shades or curtains closed over home windows after dark. Especially first floor windows

5. Don't leave tools in your yard

6. When away from home keep some lights on at night

8. Make sure yard is ship-shape

9. Have someone collect your mail
