Senior Safety Online was designed to help seniors live at home by avoiding falls and fires. Originally, safety awareness was accessible to senior housing only. The program has been successful. In some senior housing facilities falls have been reduced by over 70 percent.
We work with Senior Housing Facility staff and residents to set up safety teams whose goal is to promote safe living in resident units and in the building's common areas.
We believe one reason for the program's effectiveness is that it stresses fun and sharing. Seminars are interactive with attendees invited to offer personal insight. Buzz, our mascot, is whimsical not pedantic.
Our safety awareness program is proven and cost-effective. It is part of the larger concept of 'aging in place'. Avoidance of accidents allows people to remain where they live as they age. Helping people to age gracefully is our larger goal.
We believe real change occurs in communities. Senior Safety Online is positioned to help seniors where they live: at home. We are expanding our safety awareness program into the homes of seniors.
We have worked within senior communities in the past. We develop networks of active seniors serving as gatekeepers who lead us to venues for presenting seminars. Our web site will be hub for information, tools and checklists that can be used anywhere in the country.
Using the web to promote a safety awareness program is, in itself, cost-effective, but it is more effective when used in conjunction with local seminars and promotions in senior housing facilities and senior centers.
